The world will be watching Marbella over the coming years as some of the largest luxury hotel brands such as Four Seasons, Club Med and the W group are flocking to the Costa Del Sol with dramatic plans to invest in the area.

The first of a series of new openings took place earlier this summer with the successful launch of Nobu. Marbella was selected as one of their 16 worldwide luxurious locations to house one of their prestigious hotels.

Not far behind is Club Med, as their 65-million-euro reformation of the Don Miguel hotel is underway, and the launch date of the 550 room hotel is planned for summer 2019. To coincide with their brand, the facilities will include pools, tennis courts, a large sports area and golf greens.

However one of the largest confirmed investments is from the W group. They have recently chosen Marbella to host their fourth W Escape in Europe.

As well as investing over 300 million into the project, they have been working hard with the Pro Dunas de Marbella, association to regenerate the area and preserve the dunes and their inhabitants. The 600 room hotel is scheduled to open its doors in 2021.

The most recent announcement came just this week from the Four Seasons luxury hotel chain. Their plan is to convert a Marbella beach front location into a property consisting of private residential homes and hotel rooms. The brick laying ceremony starts already in October.

As well as the larger resorts, the Boutique Hotel market will also welcome a new comer to the area. The Rhone Property Group is investing 15 million to create a boutique hotel in the heart of the Marbella Old Town.

So what does this mean for Marbella and how will the local residents benefit?

There is no doubt that these luxury hotel brands will be bringing a chic and wealthy clientele to the area, as well new facilities for us locals to enjoy. However, more importantly these resorts are expected to even out the seasonality of Marbella. An increase in typically off-season trade will without doubt boost the local economy for the smaller businesses.

For such a small town to attract these large companies can only be seen as a reinforcement of the status that Marbella holds in Europe.
